Be careful in your research as there was the 8th U.S. Infantry- regulars- which went to Cuba, and also the 8th U.S. Volunteer Infantry which was one of the quote-immune-unquote regiments of Black troops raised on the assumption they would be immune to the tropical diseases rampant in Cuba and other theaters of the war. x x x While the regulars went to Cuba and fought at El Caney, the 8th Immunes never left the U.S. x x x x There is an excellent history of the immune regiments at armyhistory.org SLASH the-black-immune-regiments-in-the-spanish-american-war
