No .50-70s had a separate blade except the 1870 Carbine. Something else is at play here. There were about 5000 M1865s made in .58 rimfire, and about 52,000 M1866, which is what we think you have. To answer a later question, the narrow vs. wide issue was MUCH later, and involved the .45-70 models.
