US Springfield Trap Door Info

Well quote Model 1870 US. quote is not a standard marking, and serial numbers do not appear on the stock. Sorry, I am a VERY literal person. If the trapdoor mark is quote Model 1870 eagle head crossed arrows US, then it would be a Model 1870. If their are a pair of matching numbers on the left side just above the wood where the barrel joins the receiver, it is a Model 1868. You were told correctly. Wire brushing, and its partner Naval Jelly, are two things that send collectors absolutely ballistic. But, original finish was bright, so maybe it isnt too bad. Anyhow have fun
