Re Relic LBH officers model

Posted by Scott Lundin on Sunday, 2 August 2020, at 6:23 a.m., in response to Relic LBH officers model, posted by Stephen B. McCartney on Monday, 20 July 2020, at 6:16 a.m.

One other addendum I checked End of Custer, and Schoenberger writes that Wallace had a Springfield sporting rifle, which I conflated to an Officers Model because the Officers Model was certainly a sporting rifle due to this post. Its a fairly safe assumption that Wallace purchased an officers model, given its shorter barrel roughly 4quot longer than the cavalry carbine. Captain Thomas French carried a standard infantry rifle in .50 caliber, a quotLong Tom.quot PI also forgot to mention that Brigadier General George Crook also carried a Springfield, although he likely had it for hunting purposes only, and it appeared he had a standard pattern infantry rifle reworked by a gunsmith in Omaha, NE, just before the 1876 summer campaign. This info is found in Paul Hedrens book Rosebud 1876.
