The quotbarrel will only screw in half wayquot certainly makes it sound like there is a long nose M1868 receiver almost certainly with a serial number on the left side at the front and the barrel is from a M1870 .50-70 or M1873 in .45-70. There is about an inch difference in threaded length between either of those and the M1868 barrel. PAs far as I know, the barrel and receiver threads are not quottaperedquot as on pipe threads, but the same diameter full length with the barrel snugged up to the receiver by the shoulder at the end of the threads butting up against the face of the receiver. PAnyway, that is my guess. Its hard to figure out what quotnon-gun guysquot are describing sometimes, but they do the best they can. It would be hard for me to ask anything about stuff with wires in it, or even automobile engines.
