My father passed and left me this...

Hi all - thank you in advance for your help. My father passed at age 83 last year and left me his fathers Springfield model 1873 rifle. I know a little about my Remington 870 shotgun and my pellet gun, but I know nothing about this rifle. I wonder if you all might be able to help me know more about it, and I would like to disassemble, clean and shoot it as well. PHere are some pictures I just took to get started. Oops, it wont let me post the google drive URLs, so let me know how I can share the pictures with you. PYou can see its US Model 1873, with the SWP 1884 inspection stamp. The stock is also stamped quotDetroit Board of Commercequot -- I have no idea what that means, other than my Grandfather lived in Cadillac, MI. He was in the Navy pre-WWI, then joined the Army as an Ambulance Driver toward the end of WWI. But I would guess he got this rifle for hunting after the war. PThis rifle seems unusual, because it has a carbine stock but the full-length 32-58quot barrel. Plus it has the rear peep-sight that I cannot find information about. PI see your page here with instructions on disassembly - would that also apply to this rifle Any help you can provide on care and maintenance of this heirloom would be most welcome. - Any other pictures or markings that would help, I can post those for you. PThanks Bryan
