Re: H&R OFFICERS MODEL SERIAL DATE?

I found an H&R Model 1873 trapdoor carbine in a local gun shop. It has a case hardened receiver with some engraving on the trigger guard, the trapdoor, and several other places. The stock is not checkered, and the carbine has a vernier sight. There is no metal cap on the forearm, and there never was one. The serial number of the gun is " Serial No Exp 5 ".
The left side of the barrel is marked " U.S. Model 1873. cal. 45-70 Govt". The left side of the barrel is marked, " Harrington & Richardson Inc., Worcester, Mass., Made in USA." It appears it has never been fired.
It isn't the Officer's Model ...any body ever see one or have any ideas?
