1883 Springfield Rifle
Posted by bud Wilson on Friday, 5 November 2010, at 6:43 p.m.
I'm trying to help a friend identify a rifle his great Uncle General Lee McKinney carried way back when. It say "U S Springfield 1883" on the right side of the receiver plus it has the Eagle between the Hammer and the bottom of the receiver. None of my books show an 1883. It has two bands instead of three which I think was common in that prioed. The stock extends to about 4 inches of the end of the barrel, the butt plate is solid. If someone can help it would be nice to know the caliber as well. Thanks, Bud.
