The Trapdoor Springfield Newsletter was printed quarterly from 1998 to 2007. It consists of 375 pages of material that supplements Book I and Book II. If you are a serious trapdoor collector, you cannot be without the newsletters or the two volume set of books (Book I and Book II). If the supply of deluxe binders lasts, the set will fit in three binders. However, for convenience, the use of a 21/2" three ring binder may be more convenient. The newsletter is focused on keeping the collector aware of new information relating to trapdoor Springfield arms. The two books that will be referenced are: The .45-70 Springfield and The .45-70 Springfield-Book II -1865-1893.
When writing the above two texts, a number of items were omitted for lack of detail. This material was normally in the form of lengthy production lists or isolated comments found in the official records such as the Armory payroll records. These facts and data bases will now be presented in the newsletter in order to complete the distribution of all the pertinent data. For example, the first newsletter listed all the items Springfield produced in 1870. Also, Volumes 1 & 2 start with one of the Weekly Production Records from the 1880s. The tables are very interesting and informative.
NEWSLETTER BINDERS: Frasca Publishing has a limited number of deluxe (one inch) 3-ring binders for the newsletter. These quality binders have padded burgundy SABA vinyl on all sides. "NEWSLETTER" is gold embossed on the spine and "U.S. Springfield/Trapdoor Newsletter," is gold embossed on the cover. Please check with Frasca Publishing before you order them.
