Dick, to answer your questions I'm not sure of the difference between the old or new drilling pattern. The butt plate on this carbine is solid, no trap. I was surprised when I removed it. The dowels are the about the same color, a little lighter, than the stock and are glued in. They are ground flush to the curved contour. The cut in the upper area for a swinging gate is complete. The cartouche is ESA in oval with no date, 5/8" long. Circle P proof. R.D.R. (R.D.Roper)forward of it. I have compaired the stock to other known long wrists and it is identical externally. No file marks or machine marks at all if it was a later reformed stock. If it is a modified later stock someone did a very good job. I would like to get this figured out. I can send you pictures if that would help.
