Bannerman (?) Trapdoor question

Posted by John on Friday, 19 July 2019, at 7:22 p.m.

It is pretty much restored to M1873 configuration, serial number 21048. Barrel and receiver have been together for a long time with matching wear and little finish. V/P/ eagle head proofs on left side look a tiny bit funky, but might be real. Bottom of barrel has P P in a line. Left side just below the woodline has C C C which is almost certainly "the mark of condemnation."

The barrel has five groove rifling, not three. Barrel length is normal 32 5/8".

Where the heck did the barrel come from?

I am sure it is the handiwork of Bannerman or SHG or Stokes Kirk, etc, but the barrel puzzles me.
