Two “shims” on M1879 rear sight . . . .

Posted by JimF on Tuesday, 12 March 2019, at 1:55 p.m.

Just came across a M’79 carbine sight that had two tiny shims installed in the “raceway” of the slide, in order to ELIMINATE any windage adjustment. I’m assuming this was a “field” modification, to STOP COLD any soldier from fiddling with the sight. Or, was it to eliminate any accidental change in windage?? In any event, I removed the shims, and now have full windage capability restored.
