Cleaning old ammunition

Posted by Charly Busey on Sunday, 10 March 2019, at 1:38 p.m.

Hi All - A bit off topic, but I was given a bunch of military 30'06 ammunition by a friends family. Most was Korean War vintage however at the bottom of the leather bag were several stripper clips full of RA 1918 30'06 on their original brass stripper clips. Most of the clips still had both their tabs intact ( date was determined by examining rounds from clips where one tab had been broken). The storage in the leather bag left a lot of heavy green verdigris on the ammunition - any suggestions as to the best way to clean it off? I haven't come across much 30'06 with ww1 dates and never before on original stripper clips so I thought I should take proper care and use to display with my US 1917 rifle I inherited - I figured that among the group would be folks who have dealt with this problem on old 45/70 and 50/70 ammunition.

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions
