Re: HR 45-70 OFFICERS TRAPDOOR CARBINE MOD 1873 Instruction manual

Unless shooting from a bench, drop lower the barrel when inserting the round. This was part of the manual for a practical purpose. It keeps the breechblock from falling onto the breech while loading. I get a kick watching YouTube videos with shooters who don't do this. Also, don't close the breech with the cam latch (lever-the exact term escapes me, at the moment). Push on the breechblock until you hear the "click". Doing this will lock the breechblock, as designed. Another great post from Ernie!
