Breechblock date

Posted by Alan Gordon on Sunday, 4 November 2018, at 3:51 a.m.

One of the questions (#3) in FAQs About Trapdoor Arms states unequivocally that "there is NO such thing as an "1878" marked breechblock". I am currently attempting to verify the bona fides of a 1873-84 trapdoor rifle. A photo that has been sent to me, taken in very good lighting and of reasonably high resolution (3264 x 1836) most certainly does show a date of 1878. The clarity of the characters is such that there can be no way that the last digit can be misconstrued as an 8 rather than 3. If I were able to upload the picture, I would do so. Perhaps I can send it to somebody's email for assessment? Thanks for any assistance, Alan G
