Custer range Carbines

Posted by Michael H. Collins on Friday, 7 September 2018, at 11:05 p.m.

There is an interesting First Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine serial number 16,175 coming up on an auction 0n 9-12-2018. Cowan's Auctions has this Carbine for sale and it's a documented Gun. It is advertised as having been with Troop F of the 2nd Cavalry 10-12-78. It was returned unserviceable. It's currently on proxibid where there are some good photos. It looks correct except for the later barrel. I've looked at this Carbine a number of times and it may just add up if the barrel was damaged and then replaced. I would be interested in hearing from some of the experts here once they've looked it over. Estimates range from $2,000.00 to $5,000.00. I won't be bidding but I'll be in the stands watching. Thanks to all who contribute especially the regulars who are the real experts on Springfields. Sincerely, Michael H. Collins
