I'm assuming the receiver is marked "1896" without the word "MODEL"? That is the scarcest stamping.

I have one in the 32K range which does not appear to ever have been touched, though it is well worn.

The one I REALLY like though is 70210, a documented (6th Cav) China Relief Expedition piece - not San Juan (or even Kettle) Hill to be sure, but IMHO a pretty close second as far as historical Krag carbines go.
