Serial number question, Krag carbine

Posted by "Ab" Abercrombie on Saturday, 4 August 2018, at 2:56 p.m.

Hey Friends and colleagues!

I regret bothering y'all with an off-topic question, but this is the only firearms site that I frequent (uh, except, of course, for OldGuns). Anyhow, today I met a man who had a profoundly spoterized Krag carbine, serial number 30967. My only SRS book placed this number amid several carbines issued to 1 USVC. Furthermore, I had read (on the Internet, so it's GOT to be true, right?) that carbines were issued to 1 USVC in largely unbroken numerical order. If that is by any stretch of the imagination true, then my acquaintance's Bubba Masterpiece would have some tales to tell. I have zero interest in buying the carbine (though it was cheap), but I promised the owner that I'd ask about its history. Thank you for entertaining this question; I do appreciate it.
