There is no data on serial number 277130. However a number of nearby numbers were documented as used by the 160th Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish American War. Apparently records were found for ONLY companies G, H, I, L and is is remotely possible that your rifle was assigned to one of the other companies of that regiment.

But, guns were not assembled or shipped in exact serial number sequence so absent positive documentation, it is just as likely that your number went somewhere else and sat in storage instead of going off to war.

The 160th Indiana did get to Cuba for occupation duty, after the hostilities were over, arriving in January 1899 and returning to Savannah, GA in March 1899.
