H + R trapdoor breech block repair

Posted by Gary Long on Tuesday, 10 April 2018, at 6:13 p.m.

Hello! I spoke with Mr. Al Frasca this afternoon and he suggested I post these questions. I'm sure this has been asked many times before but I need to feel secure that my H&R Officer's Model trapdoor will not pop open. I have heard of many fixes including: 1. Dimpling the shaft slightly and installing two new allen screws, the first one tight and the second one on top of the first, tightened. 2. Replace the breech block with an original Springfield breech block per Larry Gibson's article.

I wonder if anyone has ever milled/machined the H&R breech block to accept and original Springfield thumb latch/cam assembly and secure that side/mounting plate with a screw as the original Springfield breech blocks were?

Al suggested I should ask Mr. Tom Trever his thoughts due to his expertise on trapdoor problems.

Any thoughts on these of any other modifications that would solve the H&R problems would by Greatly Appreciated!!! Many thanks to everyone on their thoughts and thanks to Mr. Frasca on guiding me to this information.
