Ronald- Only thing I can say for sure is that a M1873 rifle serial number 6159 sold at Cowans in November 2016 had "NATIONALS C&G" marked on the left side of the stock. Not sure if that is your gun, or another example with similar markings.

Meaning is unknown to me. My guess is that it is either some sort of veterans group or theatrical supply company's property mark. Less likely is the possibility that the marks may reflect ownership by a bank which kept it for safeguarding their money.

There are a lot of similar sorts of markings out there which made sense at the time, but the meaning of which has faded from memory over the years.
