M1882 Short Rifles

Posted by Dick Hosmer on Thursday, 7 December 2017, at 4:03 p.m.

Was VERY interested to read the description of 198647 which recently "passed through", especially the fact that the number (which I'd always suspected due to its being way of sequence) apparently has a great provenance. Nobody was faking short rifles in the 1960s!

Al, I know I'm parsing words here, but did you intend to imply that the 82RB arms did NOT have the friction-joint? I'd always believed that ALL of the 28" guns were so equipped?

I know the rear sights are different, and was just given (courtesy of Craig Riesch) a pic of the RB version (with the points at top of the rails) which I will add to my book, ASAP.

Thanks!
