Chamber potential issue

Posted by Art Heikkila on Saturday, 2 December 2017, at 10:34 p.m.

Just bought an 1884 trapdoor springfield. A guy I showed it to at the gun show looked at it and said there had been a hole drilled above the chamber either to deactivate the gun by putting a pin through into the chamber, or, it had been tapped to another rear site. I looked in the chamber and didn't see if feel anything. Question is what happened and why, and is it safe to shoot, or what needs to be done so I can shoot it. The vu n is in excellent condition including the bore. Thanks in advance for the help. Art
