1868 Springfield Trapdoor
Posted by K Hannon on Tuesday, 28 November 2017, at 1:06 p.m.
I have been interested for the past couple of weeks in acquiring an 1868 Trapdoor. My prime interest is having a nice "correct" example. I would also prefer to have one that could be used for occasional target shooting.
Locally, I have only been able to find a rather sloppily cut down example with the seller asking $1000, so I passed. I took to the internet and found Joe Salter's website. From what I have read on various message boards, he seems reputable. He has one for sale (Item # 32847) that is serial number 38807.
While obviously not perfect, it seems to be in VG+ condition, and it seems "correct" based on my research (though I would obviously need to have a gunsmith take a close look at it before firing).
I found this site and figured I would ask the experts what they thought of this example. Anyone willing to help out a Trapdoor newbie? This would be the first antique firearm purchased over the internet, so I am a bit wary!
Thanks in advance.
