It did not, originally. Any number found today (usually they occur on the right side of the barrel next to the receiver) would have to be some sort of inventory or control stamp, added at some time by a using agency, post-manufacture. This is fairly common on Model 1870 trapdoors, which were also not serialed during fabrication.
