Turn in's, and Re-issues

Posted by David on Monday, 6 November 2017, at 6:23 p.m.

Hello.....I have a question for the researchers, and members here....In this sites INFORMATION CENTER DIVISIONS: Section of "Restoration" I was reading Mr. Don Klinko's thoughts on cleaning, and take down of the Springfield rifle. He states that the required complete take down, and over cleaning resulted in the turn in of the worn guns, and issue of new weapons. Was this done on a scheduled basis? If so how often would it have been? Every 4 years? 5 years? I ask because in trying to look up a carbine serial number in the SRS I see that it looks like CO L, and CO I of the 7th Cavalry were issued new arms in April, and July of 1888.... Any thoughts?.. Thank you in advance. I appreciate your time... Dave
