No idea as to who defaced your receiver, and cannot even begin to research a partial number. One "X" is enough for most people - you needed 4? Why so coy if you purchased it? Rifle was made in 1888. The version you describe is the one most frequently encountered. Actually, the vast majority of trapdoors had simple cleaning rods - the sliding bayonet was only used on the final 65000 or so (plus a couple of 1K runs of experimental pieces) in 1880 and 1884. Hope that helps. Should be a good shooter - you must handload for best accuracy.
