With all due respect to you and your "professional" friends, I'm not Joe Schmoe.

I have my bonafides, AND good manners.

I do not "monkey around". Nor have I ever asked to physically touch a specimen - all I have done was to try to correct some pretty egregious mistakes in labeling.

You have never seen me handle someone else's gun (ALWAYS by the wood, and NEVER manipulate the action, etc. without asking)

Be advised that I am no stranger to the inner workings of a musuem. The late J. Edward Green of the Presidio Army Museum in San Francisco was a dear friend of mine. The hack "restoration" performed on a UNIQUE hat of his by the "professionals" at Harper's Ferry (which destroyed the artifact) literally brought him to tears. John Langellier was at the PAM at the same time. I am welcome behind the scenes at Benicia Arsenal (one of the bright spots I mentioned).

I have no quarrel with the docents completely understandible lack of universal knowledge nor do I question their motives. It is their snooty attitude - which you would gloss over - that is the problem. I'm on the advisory board at Milsurps and run the Springfield forum on Gun Values Board, so I understand something about volunteering of time. BTW, I'm 80 years old, work a full time job while not being a caregiver to my semi-invalid wife.

I'd suggest you reconsider your own outlook, as you only seem to further make my point.

Good thing I didn't send what I first wrote.
