Please go to Culvers Shooting Page and then to Forums and then to Trapdoor Rifles and then to "Better photo of my 1866 Springfield" so that you can look at some photos that if posted of the firing pin and breech block of an 1866 rifle. They will help you to understand what should be there within your beech block. Also, a photo of a breech block face to compare yours too. Breech block face ground down? Please explain what you see. Could be your breech block is OK and the firing pin is buggered up on one or both ends and is jammed down in the depressed position. Because of that, maybe somebody filed off the tip of the protruding firing pin and left some file marks on the block face?
