At first I thought it was a heavily reworked military stock, but if that pistol grip is set in, I'd like to shake the hand of the man who did it.

Mix of .50-70 and .45-70 parts, as I'm sure you know.

At least the guy's asking a "reasonable" price (not like that POS Ward-Burton carbine with home-made bolt that has been up for over a year).

I think you are right that it is a custom stock from long ago. What I find interesting is the poor condition of the metal, especially the bore. Who would go to that kind of effort without staring with a minty gun, which could probably have been had for $5 at the time the work was done.
