1873 trapdoor rifle help
Posted by Shawn Gibbs on Sunday, 6 August 2017, at 6:21 p.m.
I have an opportunity to purchase a 1873 trapdoor rifle and would like to know if the price is ok. It is in extremely good condition and looks almost unused. It is serial number 95,421. The stock is marked with a inspectors cartouch "ELA 1878", a circle "P" under the grip and a U between the circle P and the trigger guard. The barrel is 32" and marked with V P and eagle head, also a B on top of the barrel next to the other markings. The trapdoor is marked US model 1873 and both barrel bands have a U stamped on them. This would be my first trapdoor so I could use any info you have. The seller wants $1300 and I know that would be high for a rifle in average condition but would it be out of line for a rifle in excellent condition? Thanks for all your help.
