Frankford Arsenal Bench Reloading Tools

Posted by John S. on Wednesday, 2 August 2017, at 5:26 p.m.

On the main page under "Historian and Collector Information:" there is a great listing of "Frankford Arsenal Reloading Kits." At the bottom are drawings of the Bench Reloading Tools dated 1886, obviously first used for trapdoors.

About 1907 Frankford Arsenal was issuing/selling these same tools with slight modifications (mainly in the dies and shell holders) as the Model 1907 set up for .30 Model of 1898 and .30 Model of 1906 cartridges, and shipped in a large wooden crate, along with a nicely finished box for small parts, dies, gauges, wrenches, etc. Brophy's 1903 book shows the tools on page 419, but not the crate.

Does anyone know of a photo showing how you fit the tools into the crate, either for the 1886 tools or the 1907 tools, which are probably identical. The manual for the 1907 Bench Reloading has drawings of the tools, but nothing on the crate.

I got one of the 1907 sets recently and it looks like the crate had any dividers/packing blocks, etc removed and I am trying to rebuild that. Otherwise, lots of bubble wrap!

Any photos, drawings would be greatly appreciated.
