Ha! Fortunately no one in my family claims it was with Custer. The only history I have on it was that a relative bought it when they closed down an armory here in Nebraska but no one remembers where. From reading posts the only things that stood out different from a standard issue rifle of that type was the tack and then there was a post that called to question whether the rear sight had been replaced. The screws on the sight are not slotted which lends itself to being the original sight or a depot change. A search shows it to be an M1879 Springfield sight. Would this have been the original sight? Thank you again for the help.
