Trapdoor shooting- popular history
Posted by John S. on Saturday, 22 July 2017, at 12:54 p.m.
Although certainly not done to the scholarship standards found here, there is an interesting and informative 31 minute video on the .45-70 trapdoors, done by "Hickok 45". He is a popular You Tube "star" who post frequent shooting videos with running commentary on history and performance of the guns he is shooting. Everything from the latest and greatest plastic pocket pistols to historic arms of all nations. Usually entertaining, and frequent demonstrations of shooting skills at a variety of metal targets, watermelons, clay pots, water filled jugs and other "action" targets to keep the action going and interest up.
Hickok 45 is shooting a parts gun, refinished stock, and missing the rear sight! but hits just about every time. He clearly points out the difference in value and collectibility of ones like this and others.
This is the sort of material which appeals to young folks, especially those just getting interested in guns.
We need to encourage guys like this, not criticize him for any errors on some of the minor details. I cannot post a link here, but google "Springfield trapdoor hickok45 June 2017" and you will find it.
