F-p M66 Rifle

Posted by Al Frasca on Friday, 21 July 2017, at 1:49 a.m.

I am curious to know if any of you collectors have seem three band Franco-Prussian M66 rifles with musket stocks that have the original armory CW cartouches on the rear of the stock and the additional HSH cartouche to confirm it being a F-P gun. The one in question has a pristine stock with all three cartouches in very sharp condition and no indication the stock was sanded. Also, the musket stock inspector's initials are in the rear beyond the trigger plate and they are also sharp and deep. The gun has the late block with the flattened comb, so it is not something done early in the alteration period. Being a musket stock taken from the arsenal and altered to accommodate the extractor mechanism of the M66, and never was made for the M66, there is no script N firing proof on the stock. The color case on the hammer and lock plate are different. That is to be expected since the CW hammer had to be replaced.
