No, it is not what would normally be considered "correct". The cartouche may have just been sanded off, but the "S" is not a known mark.

At that date it is VERY VERY unlikely that Springfield would have installed a dated lockplate. though I suppose one COULD have been fitted during an emergency overhaul, since they are physically identical. ALL bands have the "U", though it was originally smaller than seen on late (post 75000 or so) guns.
