Hi Dick, you will not get any blowback or guff from me. I am just trying do my best to give you a thoughtful response.
I am not the one who can respond to 'accuracy' of the descriptions. That is not my area of work. However I can at least give you another point of view on this.
This is my opinion only. You with 45 years of collecting experience are probably excellent in knowledge of the types of arms you collect. Most likely way better than 99% of us out there.
We are an auction company, and we sell around 25,000 arms per year. We have three types of auctions each has its own type of description.
A premiere gets a large write up and in most cases plenty of high quality photos. The catalog is in full color, 3 volumes are created one for each day. There are generally around 3,000 items for sale. Meaning we have to get people out on the road picking up collections, get those items to our facility, follow all the ATF rules. Then get all 3000 items photographed, described, evaluated, put up on the website, Proxibid and so on. Plus get the catalogs created, printed and shipped with enough time for customers to view and bid on items of interest.
One of our premiere auctions is typically larger than any other competitors auctions they have all year. This is not an excuse it is just to show you what we are up against. And we do our best to represent the items accurately with our various firearms specialist. While you have had a bad experience there are others who of course have had good ones.
Like I said we are an auction house and are not auctions a place to find undiscovered deals from time to time?
Another thing to keep in mind is that our Regional sales. Named that way for a reason, have up to 10,000 guns. That makes it impossible to write a full description for that many items. And we say that too, fewer photos, black and white catalog. But it is in color on the website and I try to give bidders as much info as possible. We recommend you attend and view the items in person. We announce that to the people watching the auctions on Proxibid, etc... Lots of dealer come to these types of auctions and buy inventory for their stores.
I can tell you we try extremely hard to do a good job for buyers and sellers. Many enjoy the large auctions we hold and we try to make it fun for those that attend, and give good service. I suppose just like any business something gets missed and someone gets let down but we try to make it up if that does happen.
