Dick, Springfield made whatever a company wanted provided they paid for it. Some of the production was done with Springfield machinery in the shops and sometimes the armorers were "rented out" to different companies to make what the company needed. Some armorers were gone for months at a time working for other companies. Some employs at the armory were paid by the month, by the hour, or by the piece. Inspectors located at other companies like Colt, Remington and Smith and Wesson were probably paid by the month. The payroll records were difficult to follow for workers not at the armory.
