Fascinating information and kudos to Ed for digging it out!

What still escapes me in this mess is how the 5-groove barrels got ANY SA stamps, never mind the final P, if they were not made at SA. Were they sold off before rifling?

Maybe some day we will discover how the barrel of Long Range rifle 116189, with 6 grooves and long throat - which I purchased from Al a few years ago - came to be roll-marked Remington Arms Co.? I have restored this rifle with a proper Hotchkiss-style stock, also obtained from Al. That was before I purchased 162036, and thought that I - not having Frank Digon's luck [BIG GRIN] - might never find a long-range!
