Thanks Tony. I guess that explains why I couldn't match the receiver with those pictured in Poyer's book, but why would a 50-70 receiver be installed in what otherwise looks like a 45-70 trapdoor, even a parts gun?

Whatever the story, I know the gun has been unchanged since 1961 and from what I know about my grandfather and can recall about the gun back into the mid-50's, I'd bet it was that way when he got it.

This is turning out to be quite an education!
