Re: New to Trapdoors and have a few questions for the experts

You, as a novice, have done better with your research than many who have come before you. I'm totally clear on everything you say, rather than not knowing EXACTLY what is wrong withe the sight.

While there are a few minor differences, EVERY Buffington has TWO knurled knobs at the right front - NO exceptions. You are correct about the year, though 1887 is a possibility - in any event you do want an 1884 block (ALL of which are "wide").

You are also correct about no rod bayonet - they mostly occur above 500000, and those few that do not are FAR from your range.

Pictures cannot be handled by this website.

As to the sight - look on the parts dealer's page. One of them can fix yours up, or sell you a complete and operable replacement.

Hope that helps, and welcome!
