Possibly nothing more than "we always did it that way" and possibly one or two guys were the trigger guard assemblers and they simply did it that way for the sake of uniformity when lined up on a rack. When they trained a substitute or replacement worker, "let me who you how to do this" and the habit was passed on.

The few oddballs, well there was that one Hosmer fella working there who may have done a few backwards just to see if anyone would notice.
