Wood can naturally darken with age depending upon what conditions it has been exposed to. In such cases you can rub it until your elbows fall off and it's not going to change the color. In my opinion, if you really want a lighter, reddish stock which shows the grain, sell this rifle and buy one with a stock tone you are happy with.
