Ed, that is a VERY good question. I do not know of any obvious differences. The only one that comes to mind is that in 1868, the receivers were hand stamped which can show irregularity, but with only two numbers to deal with, it is a tough call. All the M69 receivers were machine stamped, as well as the M68 receivers produced in 1869 and 1870.

Looking at the digits on the receiver, I would say they are not well aligned which would indicate an M68 receiver. However, SN62 would have been a more difficult call.
