Just saying Thank You for all replies, all are helpful.
Didn't mean to imply intentional misinformation, some sites relay information with twists and turns that leave you wondering what they just said, and how the facts they rattled off fit back together again.
Which is why I posted originally, thinking to gain more confidence my rifle is likely to be original in all its parts, etc. I should know that is difficult to get without having an expert view or handle a rifle.
Trapdoors are not all that confusing a subject, but with many having been played with and put together over the years, and no assurance of what arsenals (or Bannermans) have or have not done to various models,etc...
For instance, many guns on the market show Breech-blocks(the "Trapdoor") that are still nicely case-colored. This seems odd for a gun that has been fired to any extent using black-powder ammunition.
I'm no expert, so that's all on that point.
...adios, DB. Thanks for listening.
