Plus they were getting pressure from Sitting Bull Not to take any of the White man's possessions. He was firmly against using or adopting any of the ways of the whites. Maybe after a couple of reprimands from the Chief , everyone got back to the business at hand and there was no more scrounging the battle field and a few choice items were left behind.
Compounded by the Dead and wounded to attend too, hungry and thirsty warriors and horses, new horses, women, children and the elders to feed and water,the thought of breaking camp, pinning down the other soldiers, combined with all of the excitement that comes with being victorious, some anxiety about the future and all of the new toys, everyone was more than distracted.
