1866 blocks are a hot mess. There are at least two methods of attaching the thumblatch, and then there is the cutaway block. The logical mind would assume that the early bocks would be solid with the M1865-style latch mount, and the the later blocks would have the cutaway block with the retaining plate. Nooooo - all sorts of scrambles are found. The cutaway block was used on the M1867 Cadet as well.
