Re: Carbine 343204

Posted by John S. on Monday, 27 February 2017, at 9:14 p.m., in response to Carbine 343204, posted by Gary Wining on Monday, 27 February 2017, at 5:32 p.m.

Gary- The serial number is not listed in SRS, but is in a long run of carbines, so it is likely that it is a real carbine. Some nearby numbers are noted as associated with cavalry units circa 1889, and others are associated with the St. Thomas Military Academy in 1939.

If you like the condition, and price, and lust after a "M1890" carbine, it sounds like it might have a good home.

I would expect maybe a 1884 dated block, but not a big deal, and I would expect to see a grooved trigger by then, but again, not a big deal on an issued weapon. Such details may turn off the "pristine from the armory- hidden from combat" enthusiasts, but do some more homework and decide if those are valid concerns or not.

Good luck.
