Carbine #5285

Posted by Ned Harris on Saturday, 25 February 2017, at 6:13 p.m.

Al may already have this serial number, but I saw it today at the Ben Avery's "Winter Range" event for sale by a vendor. It had a saddle ring, sling swivel on the barrel band but none on the trigger guard, no "VPN' was visible on the barrel but there was heavy scratching all around the visible parts of the barrel towards the breech block. The cartouche was faint so not readily legible, the circle P was barely legible. There was virtually no finish on any of the metal parts. Oddly, the stock, with the exception of missing cartouche, looked almost perfect, with very few gouges or any sign of much use. It almost looked like my H&R carbine's stock. There was not a door on the butt either. Asking price was $5200. I suspect it's "real" since they seemed to be a reputable vendor, but at that price ....? BTW I missed buying an almost identical carbine at a small gun shop shop in Tuscon a couple of years ago. Ned
