Got a Trapdoor for Christmas, any info appreciated!
Posted by Dan S on Sunday, 25 December 2016, at 1:58 p.m.
Hi there, I received a Springfield trapdoor for Christmas this morning (got it for myself and wife wrapped it and left it under the tree). It is in very nice shape, brown patina more than blue on barrel, lots of case visible on lockwork. It is marked:
U.S. SPRINGFIELD (with Eagle) US MODEL 1884 SN: 509788 Has V.P. and maybe R and an I another R on the chamber end of barrel. There's a symbol that looks like a witch's hat there, too. Bother barrel bands have a U, and the rear sight is the later style. Cartouche on the stock is very sharp and says SWP(?) and 1990. Bottom of stock on grip area has M and and a stylized P in an oval.
Any insight? Thanks and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
